Summer Of Code 2006

Yes! The applications for student proposals for SoC 2006 opened on Monday.

I’ve added my proposals but I have some more ideas so I’ll probably write one or two more. Well, if all goes well one of my current ones has quite a chance to get accepted, so keep your fingers crossed. ;)

Google really made an effort to ease the whole process this year. They have a online application for students to add, change and review their proposals and for mentors to rate, comment and bash them. :) Nice job! :)

Žur do poznih ur!

And we reboot

It doesn’t matter how hard we try to maintain high uptime for Zabica because there’s always a variable we can’t control. Today it was electricity.

A two hour downtime doesn’t mean much but it’s not nice either. And as a system administrator I think that downtime is just a sign of weakness and not enough planning. This time it was the later, because we didn’t know about planned electricity cut.

But then again, it’s just a private server, right?

World looks nice again

After a few screw-ups and quite a few night hours spent online I’ve finally managed to get a Xen installation working again! :)

It was a road full of “rm -rf *”s in /root directory and “make uninstall”s that uninstall every version of Xen on the system (not only the last one) but in the end Xen is working, EVMS is working, domU’s are working and a world is a beautiful place again. :)

In other news:
* Todays student demonstrations were a big success! Now we just have to wait and see who will get screwed because of it.
* Google’s Summer Of Code 2006 is on the doorsteps again.
* I’ve managed to use an remote X11 session on a non-publicaly accessible computer with some SSH magic!
* And it’s still raining outside

A perfect evening for some TODO-list busting :)

How true

It’s not who you are underneath, but what you do that defines you.

Hmm.

Plus one and counting…
