Crash and burn!

Man, what a day!

It started very promissing. I woke up relatively early and had a nice breakfast. Then I’ve checked my daily electronic stuff (emails, news, svn commits, etc.) only to find that Bostjan was very productive over the night and hacked on Cyberpipe intranet quite a lot. Feeling good! :)

Then it was time to get to the airport to pick up and pay for the plane tickets to Istanbul, Turkey. I didn’t manage to pick them up earlier this week for number of reasons (a lot of time-consuming stuff happening at school and C|, a huge pile in front of my car, etc.), but was detemined to take some time off today and finaly do it.
As it tourned out this was quite a lucky decission! When I got to the airport the Turkish Airlines representative told me that he may be able to offer me the same tickets for 70Euro less each! :) That’s 280 Euro all together! He said that he just got a memo about some promotional offers for just the period in which our flights were. I was thrilled, phoned Zul to check if it is alright to accept the offer and finally agreed to take the offer! :) Sure, there is a clause in this offer saying that we cannot change flights (even for an extra fee) or cancel the tickets, but it was acceptable, because we were preety sure about the dates so nothing could mess this up. How wrong I was…

On the way back to Ljubljana weather just went mad! It started to show with snowflakes like a fist! The traffic on the highway slowed down, everyone was really careful, we all drove in single line, with extensive safety distance and really slow (about 70 - 80 km/h). It all went well and I was practicaly in the city… when…

I was driving through Siska, again in slowly moving queues, driving at about 50 km/h on the road where 90 km/h is nothing unusual. My windshield suddenly got so foggy I could’t see anything (except through the tiny slit of clear glass just above the bottom. I’ve reached for a cloath and started to wipe the cold glass. And just when I finished my eyes focused back on the road…

Break, clutch, stearing wheel, I tried to operate all of them to avoid it but the car in front of me was too close. CRASH!!! I saw the engine cover pop up and every event leading to this flashed in front of my eyes.

My Clio stayed still in the middle of the road, engine still running, music still playing. The guy in the car in front of me drove for a 50m when he finally stoped to check what was that BANG! We then moved both cars to the little grass islands by the road and started to check the situation. The damage was done so, we just checked how much, filled out the accidet report, exchanged contacts and drove off.

After I got home and calmed down I’ve re-checked the damage on my Clio: bent engine cover, broken plastic covers above front wheels, broken headlight holders (headlights still work) and busted right turn light. If I can remember correctly, the other car was in much worse shape.

Anyway, the trip home was postponed till tomorrow, I have a nice chat with my parents to look forward to, around 100k of damage to pay for and probably ruined trip to Turkey. And I can’t even get my money back for the ticket! :(

Man, what a day…

Erm… it could be worse? :)
You’re okay, that’s what matters. (You really get sick of people telling you that.) If you get away with 100k worth of repairs, you’ll be fine. I just parted with 135k for one broken headlight, cracked bumper and some paint. :/
Anyhow, hope you work it out.
